Side Effect 7

It is a sculptural object consisting of a decorative pedestal in the shape of a baluster and an extended cylinder placed on it, which consists of layers of various metals. The object on the decorative baluster is a conglomerate of debris collected over several months from the metal surface and poured into a bucket while casting other sculptures. It is therefore a waste in the layers of which its own history is written. The elevation to a pedestal perversely gives it a new meaning, it distinguishes it. The work is a continuation of my game with the viewer, asking again what is a work of art. It is also a return to the issue of the simultaneous presence and absence of a work.

Side effect 7/2

Side effect 7/2 is a transformation of Side effect 7. The cylinder, previously placed on the baluster, was cut in half, revealing its layered interior and disturbing its static and symmetrical character. I made this work in reference to the title of the exhibition – Zrąb (The Edge), for which the object was created. The exhibition took place in the Old Mine in Wałbrzych in 2018. As suggested by its curators, “the edge” is the end and at the same time the beginning of something new. The destruction of the work leads to the next stage of its narrative. In the side effect 7/2, the question of what makes an object become a work of art also returns. Is the object subjected to the process of destruction already a new work, which ends the existence of its previous incarnation? I believe creativity is a process. The constant changes taking place in it are a natural reflection of my development as an artist and the result of inspiration coming from outside. I try not to give objects a “finished” status. This open space gives me the freedom to search further.
